The "Meatpacking District" of Copenhagen is a bit different than that of the posh NYC setting. Large barrels with tremendous fires blaze at the front of each club. Patrons drinking their beers outside (legal in Denmark), while smoking cigarettes and dancing to loud music, audible both inside and outside of the club, is the scene to expect in this hip nook of Copenhagen that attracts a smartly dressed crowd and encompasses a chill vibe.
Of the many clubs in this general vicinity, Jolene's is by far my favorite. Named after the famous Dolly Parton song, this intimate club was opened by two chicks from Iceland (I have always wanted to go there) and includes one of the city's best DJ lineups, thanks to lesbian DJ phenom, Djuna Barnes. Djuna, although not well known world-wide, is quite a celebrity here in Copenhagen, especially due to the fact that she is best friends with Kim Ann Foxman from Hercules and Love Affair and dates a gorgeous girl, Dora, that bartends at Jolene's. Don't think I'm not front and center every Saturday night hoping to have a word with "Bartender Babe!" This celeb status lesbian couple are icons at this amazing art bar, but please enjoy the other eye candy available for freeeeeeeeeee at Jolene's! Ooh la to the fuckin' la!
