NYC Versus Copenhagen Fashion

Last fall H&M featured Commes des Garcons. I patiently waited for nearly an hour in a line that ran two blocks around the corner to enter the frenzy inside the store on Lex and 58th Street. I needed a helmet and pads among those crazy shoppers that pushed and tackled their way around the store grabbing whatever was in sight. I was like a pin ball for the first 10 minutes before I got pissed and decided to push back. I started grabbing whatever the fuck I could find. I ended up with drop crotch polyester 3/4 pants, a tie dyed button down, a see through silk chemise and a polka dotted vest. Although drop crotch leggings and pants lasted about two months, a short lived trend in NYC, they are present EVERYWHERE in Copenhagen. Men wear them, women wear them, transexuals wear them, children wear them and MILFs wear them (there are a lot of MILFs around these parts).
In honor of my roots (NYC) and my new residence (Copenhagen), I've attached two pictures representing fashion in both parts of the world. It's up to you to determine which one is NYC street fashion and which one is Danish street wear. Good luck...it's a tough one! That was me being facetious.

Check Out The Nips on This Danish Mannequin

I swear to God that I have seen more bizarre, provocative, lesbianic and unique things in Copenhagen than I've ever seen before. Sure, I've seen plenty of interesting things in NYC. From a homeless man in a wheel chair chasing me down the street in Fort Greene begging for money to a streaker flashing me his cock and pissing in a trash can on Hudson, I thought I had seen it all. That is until the Danes started attacking me. Check out the hard nips on this mannequin. Not only does she look real but she would give any man with a propensity towards women a hard on with the size of those things! If you wanna rock out with your cock out, come to Copenhagen. This beauty can be found on Stroget (pronounced Strottle here in Copenhagen where all the words sound like you are coughing up phlegm). Ooh, gross on my part!

Top 5 Lesbian Films You've Never Heard Of

5. Show Me Love (1998)
This brilliant Swedish film is all about the love of high school teenage girls. I actually pretended my boyfriend was a girl in high school, which actually made the make out sessions more bearable to say the least! I was so ashamed of my sexuality that I hid it from all of my family and friends. What a shame! Maybe if I would have seen a film like this, things would have been different. This coming of age story is one not to miss!

4. Tipping the Velvet (BBC, 2002)
Based on a provocative book written by Sarah Waters, BBC adapted the original text into a masterful film. Tipping the Velvet is a Victorian slang term literally meaning "cunnilingus." BTW, I hate that word worse than panties and fondle; my other two loathed words in life. In fact, I hate the word panties so much that I haven't worn them in seven years. Anyway, enough about me and my panties. Check out this amazing film that mixes humor, adventure and sexual liberation in equal doses of genius.

3. Aimee and Jaguar (1999)
The setting is in Berlin in 1945 and features Felice, a courageous Jewish woman living under a false name. Lilly, a devoted mother and occasionally unfaithful wife is desperate for love. An unbridled passion develops between them both and the dangers of persecution and siege escalate. The Gestapo is onto Felice, yet she decides to sit out the war with Lilly by her side. Will Felice be seized while risking everything for love?

2. Manji
This here is a very erotic 60's film from Japan that embodies stylish women and hot sex scenes!

1. The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant (1972)
Yes, that's right, lesbianism in 1972. Can you imagine what your grandmother would think? This brilliant German film follows the sadistic fashion designer, Petra, as she falls madly in love with her new model, arriving from Sydney.

Jolene's of Copenhagen Features Hot, Lesbian Couple

The "Meatpacking District" of Copenhagen is a bit different than that of the posh NYC setting. Large barrels with tremendous fires blaze at the front of each club. Patrons drinking their beers outside (legal in Denmark), while smoking cigarettes and dancing to loud music, audible both inside and outside of the club, is the scene to expect in this hip nook of Copenhagen that attracts a smartly dressed crowd and encompasses a chill vibe.

Of the many clubs in this general vicinity, Jolene's is by far my favorite. Named after the famous Dolly Parton song, this intimate club was opened by two chicks from Iceland (I have always wanted to go there) and includes one of the city's best DJ lineups, thanks to lesbian DJ phenom, Djuna Barnes. Djuna, although not well known world-wide, is quite a celebrity here in Copenhagen, especially due to the fact that she is best friends with Kim Ann Foxman from Hercules and Love Affair and dates a gorgeous girl, Dora, that bartends at Jolene's. Don't think I'm not front and center every Saturday night hoping to have a word with "Bartender Babe!" This celeb status lesbian couple are icons at this amazing art bar, but please enjoy the other eye candy available for freeeeeeeeeee at Jolene's! Ooh la to the fuckin' la!

Kanye West Is A Hater

In his usual douche bag way, Kanye West once again made a fool of himself at the MTV Music Awards in NYC. Is anyone surprised? What sort of idiot actually runs on stage, steals the mic from a stunned little girl (Taylor Swift) and starts a diatribe of explicits and reasons why Beyonce's video was the shit? I can get over this. However, I can't get over the outfit his wifey wore to the awards. I think she killed a leopard for this hideous attire! I'm being such a hater right now and maybe that's not cool but sometimes it is fun to make fun at at the expense of others, especially dumb ass celebrities that annoy the shit out of everyone sucking their cocks!

NYC Fashion Week: What To Wear For Fall 2009

NYC Fashion Week, running from September 10-17, is one of the most sought after events year after year. After researching the latest fashion trends, it seems that there are four distinct categories: 80's rocker (personal fav), strong shoulders (great for lesbians), shiny textures/sequins (perfect for my gay boyfriends) and leather (sensational for all you S&M fans). As dictated by the past, when economic catastrophes escalate or wars occur, there seems to be a creative spirit among designers that takes flight. It almost seems uncharacteristic in such a destitute climate, but the present day daring fashion trends seems to point to the same sort of design inspiration apparent during the Depression and the struggles in the 80's, both periods in which women's fashion became more provocative and masculine. The 2009 runway has showcased strong and confident women with dramatic exaggeration of the silhouette and extreme detail, apparent in the elevated shoulder of the below H&M garment. The textures are diverse and mixed exquisitely, creating a look that is both extreme and sheik. The following pictures dictate the trends of the current season. While leather is classic and the high boot will not likely disappear, the strong shoulder seems to me more of a fad than a substantial contribution to fashion that is likely to breed longevity. None-the-less, if you wanna dress to impress, like our flyer implies, head to H&M and grab this avant-garde top that will make you look like Hulk Hogan. Some girls actually go for that look...ooh la to the fuckin' la, love moi!

Top 5 Music Videos of All Time

So I realize that we as a society are highly opinionated and that some of you might disagree with the PropHot team's top five music videos but maybe it will take you back in time. I've often thought that a great Halloween theme party should consist of everyone dressing up as famous 80's pop stars (Madonna, George Michael, Boy George, Michael Jackson...etc). Since Halloween is fast approaching, maybe these videos will get you psyched and pumped to adorn your body with everything 80's. Lets face it, I've been living in that era for quite some time so am obviously highly influenced by everything 80's. The 80's were a time for self expression and probably one of the most profound periods for women's achievement and merging the gap that had previously existed between male and female roles, especially in regards to sexuality. BTW, can anyone guess who wrote Justify My Love? No? It was Lenny Kravitz! Check it out. You can actually hear him in the background. Lesbian = 80's = Madonna = enough said!
Numero Uno: Justify My Love - Madonna

Can anyone describe lesbian sexuality better than Madonna?

2. West End Girls - Pet Shop Boys

3. Fuck The Pain Away - Peaches

4. Thriller - Michael Jackson

5. I Want Your Sex - George Michael (great message at the beginning of this video, Michael! Wasn't it you that was caught in seedy men's rooms? I'm sure you were all about protection. Still love ya!)

Hood By Air Defies The Line Between Men and Women

Hood By Air is a NYC street wear brand with an androgynous ideology surrounding clothing. Although the majority of their customers are males, the whole premise behind the line is making clothing to be worn by both men and women, defying the rules of fashion on all fronts. Hood By Air has made quite a name for themselves, especially after hiring graffic designer and the infamous NYC "1992" party promoter, Oscar Sanchez, to create their futuristic look book. Now in its 3rd season, the dark vision of Hood By Air's futurewear combines influences from circa 1992 (makes you wonder where that came from...), with medieval armor and militant vibes. A mixture of both tight fitting silhouettes and loose fitting tops creates a black palette that is dedicated to a daring customer seeking individuality and freedom. You can find this innovative brand at Seven New York and Oak. If you ask me, they are playing it smart, featuring their line in only two local stores, creating buzz for that special customer that seeks hard to find apparel. Check out www.hoodbyair.com for more information.

Eroticism and Beauty Rolled Into One

You Can Actually See Me In This One...Oops!

Beautiful Copenhagen

Yes, I believe that is the biggest piece of rubber I've ever laid eyes on! Keep that away from me please!

Copenhagen is by far the most liberal city I've ever been to and I've been many places. Helsinki sucks ass, Lisbon bores me to tears and Paris wouldn't even consider such a thing as an organic restaurant. If you want street hookers, large, plastic cocks, topless bars or "tøplos bars" as the Danes refer to, then you best be packing. Unlike many major cities that I've been to, Copenhagen is as seedy as The Cock in the East Village and leaves a long lasting impression in erotica! Needless to say, these Danish bitches are hot and so fucking friendly that they will just come right up to you and start talking. BTW, they actually engage in conversation, unlike the ladies from NYC that would rather text on their Blackberry then start or continue a conversation with you (except at our parties of course)! Free your minds and the rest will follow!

Erik and Margit Brandt - Copenhagen

Margit and Erik Brandt - 1970's

So I seem to always get myself involved in some sort of adventure, which usually turns out in some sort of debauchery. Upon moving to Copenhagen, I decided to contact a few of the most powerful fashion designers in Denmark. Erik and Margit Brandt are one of the most influential couples in Copenhagen, let alone the world and started their fashion company, Brandt Designs, before it was even popular to be a fashion designer in the States, let alone a place like Copenhagen. Before Marc Jacobs, Vivienne Westwood, Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen, there were the Brandt's.

I traveled by bike all the way from Ballerup to Copenhagen, which is around 20 miles, to meet with this eccentric couple. We shared a bottle of wine, Erik tried to sleep with me when his wife exited the room (I think he might try this quite frequently), said I was the most wonderful person he'd ever met (I think he is full of BS) and proceeded to name drop all the celebrities he was in cahoots with at one time or another, including the likes of Andy Warhol, Mick Jagger and Edie Sedgwick. Erik was kind enough to tour me around his gorgeous home which included numerous paintings from the 17th and 18th Century. If you are looking for a place to rob, this would be the spot! Fortunately for me, we didn't tour the bedroom where this promiscuous gentleman resides. Before I left, he signed three books for me, one of which is supposedly in a museum somewhere in Europe. I'm gonna try to sell them on eBay and make some loot! Let me just say that my bike ride home to Ballerup was very interesting after a 1/2 bottle of wine shared with the most interesting and horny man I've ever met. BTW, Danish people are very forward and highly opinionated. Maybe we should adopt these two principles in the States!

Mara Hoffman, NYC Designer and Innovator

I've known about Mara Hoffman for quite some time. A New York City designer with a degree in fashion from none other than Parson's, creates beautiful styles for trendy clients that are very status conscious and wish to shop at unique specialty shops that carry hard to find pieces. Two summers ago I attended a sample sale of Mara's on Greene Street in Soho and knew right away that she was going to blow up. Her influence lies within a tribal them and each season, Mara is able to create an avant garde collection while keeping a similar theme. Not many designers are creative enough to keep one theme as their main inspiration and continually build upon that inspiration season after season. Mara is one of them! She is creative in her use of differing textures and has an uncanny ability to find fabrics that are both inspirational and tell a story. If you are looking for a way to spice up your wardrobe and hit up one of our parties, check out www.marahoffman.com. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

Peaches Rocks!

So for all of you lesbians that don't know Peaches, you should! Hailing from Canada, my favorite place on Earth, check out this fly video. Peaches defies the line between what is male and female, merging into an androgynous aesthetic that stimulates one's senses and releases all inhibitions. I was lucky enough to attend one of her shows at Irving Plaza with my then psycho girlfriend of the time. Luckily the show was too amusing to fight, so we saved that for before and after the show. Basically, Peaches is ill and she rocks out with her cock out, literally and figuratively! Check her out and let us know your favorite Peaches experience, if you are lucky enough to have had one!
